Revamp Ride Youth Bike Program: Empowering the Next Generation

I

Iuliia Macgill

The Revamp Ride Youth Bike Program is an early intervention initiative funded by the Department of Youth Justice through Community-based Crime Action Grant funding. It is designed to engage and empower youth aged 12–15 by providing them with the opportunity to strip down old bikes and revamp them into new, functional ones. Through this hands-on experience, participants gain valuable mechanical skills, learn teamwork and responsibility, and develop a strong sense of achievement and ownership over their work.

This July, during the school holidays, participants in the Revamp Ride Youth Program attended the Warama Culture NAIDOC Week Celebration events held at the Dreamtime Cultural Centre. Themed “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, these activities focused on First Nations arts, crafts, bushcraft, bushtucker, and traditional dances. The events aim to celebrate culture, strengthen community ties, and empower the next generation.

These celebrations have provided a wonderful opportunity for Revamp Ride Youth to connect with community and culture – building pride, understanding and inspiration for the future.
